Before creating scripts and scenarios for load & performance it’s important to understand the technology that your application is using.
AgileLoad is suitable for testing applications that use the HTTP protocol to communicate between their client and 1st level server. This can be Web, Web 2.0, Ajax, Rich Internet Application, Web Services and Smart Clients such as WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) or Java applications.
As well as working very well on simple web applications and sites, AgileLoad is suitable for complicated web applications such as Microsoft’s SharePoint, Oracle Applications, SAP Net Weaver, and so on, in fact so long as the application uses HTTP as its communication foundation then AgileLoad can work with it.
AgileLoad is a Windows application for performance testing of Web applications. We have designed it for use in internal networks or for use on the ‘Cloud’. For the ‘Cloud’ we use Amazon EC2 as an example throughout this learning center.
In short the cloud installations are exactly the same software that we make available to you on your desktop. The benefit of using the cloud is that you can evaluate the performance of your target application from locations around the world and that you do not need to own any machines specifically for load & performance testing.
For clarity, Amazon EC2 simply provides the ability to launch ‘Virtual Machines’ running Windows or other operating systems. These virtual machines are launched in Amazon’s data centers which are based in locations around the world including US East, US West, Europe, Asia (Singapore), Asia (Tokyo) & South America.
To get started we recommend that you download AgileLoad to your own machine in order to learn how to use it. If you do need to use the cloud then this is very easily done and is explained in our cloud testing videos.
